Character: Pee-Wee Herman
From: his playhouse
He has a ridiculously funny voice. His sense of fashion is... unique. He has a freaky house and some odd friends. No matter how you feel about him, this funny man was a frightening part of our childhoods. We all laughed and tried to imitate his strange laugh. I'm sure not many of us imitated his giant underwear, but we laughed at it all the same. The popular children's show took over the tv's in the 80's. It's not a show our kids will be exposed to, but we are all very familiar with this face, bowtie, and the famous house.

Character: Tinkerbell
From: Neverland
Making her debut in Walt Disney's classic "Peter Pan," this feisty pixie was the breakout star of the film and has become one of the most iconic characters on the planet. What makes her especially interesting is that, up until 2008, Tinkerbell had never spoken. She was a completely silent character. Her personality was so strong that she stood out without a single word. She is one of Disney's most iconic mascots. She is featured in every promotion of the castle and appears in a small way in front of every Disney film. She is the symbol of magic. She's jealous, feisty, vengeful, quick-tempered, a free spirit, and as we've recently seen, she has a big heart and a head full of dreams. She can fly and brings us all along for the adventure. Many fairies have been introduced to us over the years, but none are more popular than this flitting fairy in green. Pirates beware. Tink is here to stay. Even today she appears in the Disney parks and has been built an entire area called Pixie Hollow. She flies back to Neverland every night from the castle at Walt Disney World. She is an ever-present symbol of Disney magic. Whether she's making silly faces or tinkering, Tinkerbell is a memorable character.

Character: Napoleon Dynamite
From: his movie
Some people fail to understand the popularity of this stranger teenager while others worship the awkward grace of this underdog. He has a pretty unattractive fashion sense. He gets kicked on in school, despite his attempts to fight back. He has only 1 friend, Pedro. He likes things like "ligers" and "tater tots," and he hates having to feed the family llama. He is the epitome of the socially awkward outcast, but he is always looking for an opportunity to break out of his loser status. He wins the world over with his fearlessness to put himself out there, particularly in that he has some serious dance moves. Those who don't "vote for Pedro" can be considered a "friggin idiot, gosh!" Love or hate him, you will definitely remember him!

Character: Dexter Morgan
From: Miami
This amazing character combines a lethal secret with a sociopathic personality to take the cake as our favorite serial killer. He justifies his actions by ridding the world of villains like pedophiles and murderers. Being a blood expert working with the police department, he has the perfect cover and is a master of the after-kill-cleanup. He balances family life with his homicidal pasttime in a twisted fashion. You'd never suspect him if you didn't see his crimes being carried out. It's amazing how innocent this stone cold killer can seem. He's a methodical mastermind and protector of the innocent... in his own bloody way.

Character: L
From: Death Note
Anime fans around the world recognize this letter as the world's greatest detective. Based on the anime/manga "Death Note," the popular show has become one of the most popular animes of all time. The story is very dark, but it has managed to attract millions of fans even long after the show and manga have ended. Of the strong characters in the show, L certainly stands out and steals the show. He enters the story with a smash and establishes himself as someone to be reckoned with. He is known for more than being a strategic genius. His strange mannerisms and appearance are impossible to overlook. He's always seen with that crazy black hair, dark circled eyes, a long sleeve white shirt, his faded blue jeans, and his lack of foot gear. He loves sweets and is constantly eating dessert of some kind. He sits perched like an owl, which he insists is necessary for maximum cognitive function. He holds cell phones as if they're diseased. We never learn his true identity. He is seen as the strange genius fighting for justice. He shocks us time and time again with his antics and surprising brainpower. Seeing him work closely with the true villain makes the show irresistible.

Character: Castiel
From: Heaven... and Supernatural
The popular tv show has spent years putting a different spin on all sorts of supernatural ideas. They've even been bold enough to dip into religion. The introduction to heaven, hell, and the apocalypse began when this man showed up in epic fashion in his bad ass trench coat. He proves himself powerful, undoubtedly loyal, and is ever stoic and monotone. I don't want to give too much away of him since the series is still going on, and since his appearance, he has been a staple in the evolving story and has become more and more intriguing. You may not think trench coat when you think angels, but after you've seen him sporting that like a boss, you'll forever associate trench coats with this awesome character. If angels do exist, I hope they're this awesome.

Character: Lester Burnham
From: American Beauty
He was the ultimate pushover living his entire life inside the lines. But in this film, we follow him on his journey to freedom. We witnessed firsthand his inner beast be released when he quits his job triumphantly, smokes pot, buffs up, seduces a dreamy teenage girl, and accidentally his male neighbor... He stops living for anything other than pleasure and his happiness. The character had some insightful narration throughout the tale, even in a torrid ending. He takes the mid-life crisis to a whole new level. It's quite a movie and a remarkable man/character.

Character: Beetlejuice
From: the afterlife
Whatever you do, don't say his name 3 times! .... Unless, of course, you'd like to experience his hilarious antics. This peculiar ghost sports a snazzy suit, wild hair, and morbid make-up. The character is a pop culture icon, guaranteed to make you laugh and secretly hoping that saying his name 3 times will bring him to you. Although the film was made in the late 80's, its influence extends even now as rumors swirl about an epic sequel. Even without a new taste of him, millions of people recognize instantly his name and character. Beetlejuice is part of pop culture eternally.

Character: Eric Cartman
From: South Park
This miniature mastermind is definitely not the traditional hero like others on our list, but that's what makes him so memorable. In one of the most controversial cartoons ever created, Cartman manages to be the most shocking character by far. He is all things evil: sex-crazed, racist, homophobic, sociopathic, narcissistic, foul-mouthed, and just plain mischievous. He is kind of a bully, maintaining his offensively hilarious persona. His unique voice is also a major distinguishing factor. You may never have watched an episode of the show in your lifetime, but odds are you know exactly who Cartman is.

Character: Ferris Bueller
From: Chicago
He's the high school senior who embarks on the most epic day of skipped school ever lived. And you thought Zack Morris had high school under his thumb-Ferris is the kid we all wish we were in high school or were at least friends with. Notoriously a class ditcher, on this particular day we witness him fooling the whole city by faking an illness involving an elaborate set-up of mannequins, a snoring soundtrack, and answering machines with previously recorded messages. He breaks movie rules by speaking directly to the viewers and making eye contact with the camera. He has a contagiously cool demeanor and is a master of all things awesome. He sings in a major city parade, takes a joy ride in a sweet car, enjoys fine art, and avoids the hindrances of his parents and an overzealous principal. This film may have been made in the 80's, but generations since are familiar with the coolest kid ever to walk the halls of high school.
